そして、像として彫った顔は初めてです。大きい鼻、分厚い唇、むちっとした頬っぺた。私はこの顔を後に決めた「ブブクワ族」の初代第１号にしました。なんとなく、この顔が私の求める顔の原点な気がしたからです。
彫り終えた後、鉄分を含んだ特殊な塗料で顔を覆い、乾かした後に、この鉄を錆びさせる液体を塗ります。その液体を塗るまでは真っ黒でしたが、日が経つにつれ錆びていき、今ではこのように茶色になりました。非常にザラザラして錆びついていて、アフリカンマスクにちょっとだけ似た質感になっています。
